What we do

We donate to organizations that support cutting edge research

Support from Hawai’i AGMF is focused on enhancing genome editing tools, particularly insertional vectors like transposons and recombinases, for safer and more efficient gene delivery across various tissues.  A tool enabling the replacement of defective genes would revolutionize medicine by allowing the correction of hundreds of potential genetic diseases.  While nucleases such as CRISPR are proficient at mutating sequences, they are inefficient for inserting therapeutic genes, especially into non-dividing cells. New technologies are currently needed that are capable of safely delivering large DNA to safe locations in the human genome.  Hawai’i AGMF donates to organizations that support cutting edge research in Hawai’i with the goal of generating standard-of-care cures for genetic disease.
